Terms of use
Who can use Ask Saku, what to expect from the beta, and our responsibilities to each other.
These terms are an agreement between you and Lumi Thread LLC, a California limited liability company that runs Ask Saku (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Ask Saku you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it, and is part of these terms.
1. Who can use Ask Saku
18 or older to start a household. You must be at least 18, and able to agree to these terms where you live, to create an account that starts a household. When you create one you confirm that you are. We may suspend or remove a household if we learn it was started by someone under 18.
The household owner is responsible. The adult who starts a household is responsible for it and for everyone they add or invite.
Children. Children can be part of a household as a profile the owner manages, without a login. Children under 13 can't have their own login. Children aged 13 to 17 may use a login the owner invites them to, under the owner's supervision.
One household per person. Each person may start one household, using one email address. Addresses that reach the same inbox (for example with a +tag, or with dots in a Gmail address) count as the same person. Accounts can't be moved between households.
2. The service
Beta. Ask Saku is in public beta. Features change, may be interrupted, and can be added or removed without notice. Keep your own record of anything you can't afford to lose; Settings → Your data gives you a copy of your data at any time.
Check what matters. Schedules, reminders, travel times, weather, holidays and clash warnings are estimates from what you enter and from outside sources. Saku's answers, and the dates it reads from photos and documents, are produced by AI and can be wrong or incomplete. Connected calendars are copied in about once an hour and can lag behind the original. Always check important arrangements with the people involved.
Not a safety or emergency service. Don't rely on Ask Saku for medical, medication, childcare supervision, transport safety or emergency purposes. Nothing in the app is legal, medical, financial or educational advice.
3. Your content
You keep ownership of what you put into Ask Saku. You give us permission to store, copy and process it only to run the service for you and to keep it working well, including sending it to the providers listed in the Privacy Policy. You're responsible for what you enter, and for having permission to enter details about other people, such as family members and helpers. Add someone as a helper only if they're happy to get emails about the jobs you send them.
Ask Saku, the Saku character, our logos and the app itself belong to Lumi Thread LLC. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
4. Using it fairly
Don't use Ask Saku to break the law, harass anyone, or send unwanted messages; try to reach another household's data; overload, attack or reverse-engineer the service; or get around limits such as daily question counts, including the demo's. Treat invite links like a password and share them only with people you trust.
5. Paid plans
Ask Saku is free during the beta. If you choose a paid plan, it renews automatically every month or year, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. Payments are handled by Stripe; card details go straight to Stripe and we never see or store your full card number. You can change or cancel a plan in Settings → Plan, and it stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Payments aren't refunded except where the law requires. We'll email you at least 30 days before any price change. Deleting your household doesn't by itself cancel a paid plan, so cancel it in Settings → Plan first.
6. Inactive accounts
We retire accounts that stay signed out for a long time: after 3 months without a sign-in we email a reminder, at 6 months the account is paused, at 7 months deactivated, and at 8 months we send a final notice. If nothing changes by 9 months the account and its data are deleted.
7. Ending your account
You can stop using Ask Saku at any time, and delete your household or your login as described on the Data deletion page. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, puts other people or the service at risk, or where the law requires it. Where it's reasonable we'll tell you first and give you a chance to download your data. Sections 3, 9, 10, 11 and 12 continue to apply after an account ends.
8. No warranty
Ask Saku is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every event, reminder, answer or calendar sync will be correct or on time.
9. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lumi Thread LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, missed events, incorrect reminders or service interruptions, however they're caused. Our total liability for all claims relating to Ask Saku is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
10. Your responsibility to us
You agree to cover Lumi Thread LLC's reasonable losses and costs from any claim that arises from your breach of these terms, or from information you enter about another person without their permission.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in California, except where the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there. Before starting a claim, please email us so we can try to sort it out.
12. General
We may transfer these terms if our business is sold or reorganised. We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Ask Saku.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For significant changes we'll email the household owner or show a notice in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using Ask Saku after that, the new terms apply.
