Privacy Policy
What we collect, who helps us handle it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Ask Saku is run by Lumi Thread LLC, a California limited liability company. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us handle it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: AskSaku@asksaku.com.
The short version. We keep what your household puts in so the planner works. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't share it with data brokers.
What we collect
What you enter. Your household name and optional home address; member profiles (name, role, avatar, colour, optional birthday); events, tasks, chores, points and rewards, shopping lists and saved places; calendar links you connect and the events they bring in; photos and documents you scan; and questions you ask Saku with its replies.
Your account. Your email address, display name and sign-in details, held by our authentication provider, plus the date you accepted these policies and when you were last active.
Helpers. If you add a helper (a grandparent, sitter or driver who doesn't sign in), we keep the name, email address and any private note you give, and the jobs you ask them to do with their replies. Only the household's parents can see helpers.
Plans. If you pay for a plan, we keep the plan, its status and renewal date. Stripe holds your card details; we never see your full card number.
When you use the app. Error logs (what failed, when, and for which account), counts of how many questions were asked, and anonymous product analytics about which features are used. Analytics use a random id stored in your browser, not your name or email, and you can turn them off in Settings → Preferences.
Demo visitors. The public demo sets a cookie with a random visitor id and keeps a one-way hash of your IP address with a count of questions asked, to apply its daily limit. We don't keep the IP address itself.
We don't ask for phone numbers, government identifiers or your device's precise location.
How we use it
To run Ask Saku for your household: show your calendar and lists, work out travel times and clashes, answer your questions, send account and helper emails, and bill paid plans. To keep it secure and working, fix problems, and understand which features help. To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of use. We don't use your data for advertising.
Saku and AI
When you ask Saku a question, or scan a photo or document, the question and the household details needed to answer it, or the image, are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to produce a reply or read the dates out. Images aren't kept after they're read. Anthropic processes this data to provide the service to us and doesn't use it to train its models. Anthropic keeps this data for up to 30 days for safety and security checks, then deletes it. Saku only looks up what the signed-in adult can already see. Children's logins can't use Ask Saku.
Who helps us
We use service providers who handle data on our behalf, only to run Ask Saku:
- Supabase: database, file storage and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosting the website and app.
- Anthropic: Saku's answers and reading scanned photos and documents.
- Stripe: payments for paid plans.
- Resend: account and helper emails.
- PostHog: anonymous product analytics.
- Slack: reports you send us with “Need help?”.
- Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) and our news source: your home area's coordinates, to show weather, drive times, holidays and local headlines.
- Calendar links you connect (Google, Apple, Outlook or others) are fetched by our servers to copy events in. We only read them; we never change your other calendars.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or to a buyer if our business is sold or reorganised, under this policy. These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
How long we keep it
- Household data: as long as the household exists. Deleting an item removes it straight away.
- Ask Saku chats: deleted 30 days after they were last used; demo chats after a day.
- Counts of questions asked: about a year.
- Error logs: 72 hours.
- Payment records needed for billing and tax: as long as the law requires.
- Accounts left signed out: reminders from 3 months, deleted at 9 months (see the Terms).
- Backups: age out shortly after data is deleted, and aren't used to bring it back.
See Data deletion for how to delete your household or your login.
Children
Ask Saku is for parents and caregivers, and an adult starts every household. Children appear as profiles their parent creates and manages. Children under 13 can't have their own login, and we don't knowingly collect personal information directly from them. A parent can see, change or delete their child's details at any time in the app, or ask us to at AskSaku@asksaku.com. If you think a child under 13 has given us information directly, tell us and we'll delete it.
Keeping it safe
Every record is tied to its household and protected by database-level access rules, so one household can't read another's data. Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. A small number of people who run Ask Saku can reach the systems behind it for support, maintenance and abuse handling. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data we'll tell you as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can see and correct your household's data in the app, download a copy in Settings → Your data, delete items or the whole household, turn analytics off, and ask us for anything you can't do yourself at AskSaku@asksaku.com.
California residents. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to have it deleted; to correct it; and to opt out of its sale or sharing for advertising. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we don't use sensitive information to infer things about you. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. To make a request, email AskSaku@asksaku.com from the address on your account, or have an authorised agent do so; we'll confirm your identity before acting and reply within 45 days. The categories we collect are identifiers (name, email), household and activity information you enter, payment status, approximate location from your home address, and usage information, from the sources and for the purposes described above.
Other places, such as the UK and European Union, give similar rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict or object to processing. Email us to use them.
Changes
We'll post any change here with a new date, and tell household owners by email or in the app before significant changes take effect.
